Streaming MPEG-4 audio visual objects using TCP-friendly rate control and unequal error protection

چکیده
This article describes a fair and robust video streaming framework over IP networks. It is based on an MPEG4 Audio-Visual Object (AVOs) classification, TCP-Friendly transport and out-of-band unequal forward error protection. According to network congestion feedback, video source servers dynamically adjust their bit rates by adding and dropping MPEG-4 AVO to conform to the TCP-Friendly Rate Control (TFRC) algorithm and by taking into consideration media semantic relevancy. Thus, an accurate MPEG-4 Access Unit (AU) partitioning and packetization can be performed to cope with decoding error propagation and network bandwidth fluctuation. Finally, AVOs requiring similar network QoS level are automatically classified, packetized and mapped to one of the available IP DiffServ PHB (Per Hop Behaviors). Simulation results show a significant improvement regarding to user-perceived video quality, packet loss recovery and bandwidth share fairness.

A New Unequal Error Protection Technique Based on the Mutual Information of the MPEG-4 Video Frames over Wireless Networks
The performance of video transmission over wireless channels is limited by the channel noise. Thus many error resilience tools have been incorporated into the MPEG-4 video compression method. In addition to these tools, the unequal error protection (UEP) technique has been proposed to protect the different parts in an MPEG-4 video packet with different channel coding rates based on the rate...
متن کاملIP Video Streaming with Fine-Grained TCP-Friendly Rate Adaptation
Video streaming over the Internet is a challenging task since the Internet is a shared environment offering only best effort service. That is, it offers no quality of service and no guarantee of resources in term of (1) bandwidth, (2) transfer delay, (3) delay variation (jitter), and (4) packet losses. Then, network stability and traffic fairness become critical issues. To solve these problems ...
متن کاملNetwork-adaptive video streaming using multiple description coding and path diversity
This paper presents a TCP-friendly rate allocation algorithm for multiple description coding combined with path diversity. A 3D SPIHT-based multiple description coding is used to generate two independent substreams and each substream is protected with an FEC-based unequal error protection algorithm. In the proposed video streaming framework, two senders simultaneously stream complementary subst...
متن کاملOptimal FEC code concatenation for unequal error protection in video streaming applications
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for constructing an Unequal Error Protection (UEP) FEC code targeted towards video streaming applications. A concatenation of a set of parallel outer block codes followed by a packet interleaver and an inner block code is presented. The algorithm calculates on the fly the optimal allocation of the code rates of the inner and outer codes. When applied ...

This paper presents the implementation of an MPEG-4 Streaming System for the delivery of multiple elementary stream presentations containing audio-visual objects. This system has been tested with the MPEG-4 demonstration software implementation (IM1), but it is in fact a generic platform for multimedia presentation delivery. The signalling and delivery layer of this system implementation confor...
